Kevin McMahon is the Director of Library and Digital Reference at Simmons College of Kentucky and a graduate of the Master of Library and Information Science program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. His professional passions are archiving and information literacy; among his personal passions are political science and home renovation.

Adam is a lifelong Louisville resident who graduated from UofL in 2022 with an undergrad in Pan-African Studies and minor in Gender Studies. His previous positions include four years with Louisville Free Public Library and most recently in dual roles at Jefferson Community & Technical College as Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Program Director of Black Male Initiative. Outside of work, he attempts learning languages and playing the bass when he's not busy corralling his 5 nieces and nephews.


Library Services for All Users

  • Research Assistance - The library staff are happy to assist you with your research needs, with print and digital library sources as well as sources on the open web or at neighboring library. Be sure to check out our Subject Guides to find resources in your major.

  • Document Printing & Scanning - We have a copier/scanner located near the stairwell entrance. At the present time, printing is free.

  • Computers for Library Users - We have a small computer library for all Simmons College faculty, staff, and students. The computers are equipped with high speed Internet and the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Wireless Internet Access - We offer high-speed wireless Internet access so that you browse the web on all your electronic devices.

  • Private and group study spaces - The library equipped with a variety of seating options for individual study or group study and ample plugs to power your electronic devices. The group study room may be booked by contacting the library staff. You view existing bookings to select an available time slot on the Group Study Room calendar.

  • Inter-Library Loan (ILL) - If a item you need is not available in the Simmons library, we are happy to request it from another library. Please allow up to three weeks for book requests and 48 hours for article requests. Please check the library catalog first and if the item is not available, fill out this form to request an item via inter-library loan.

For Students

  • Assistance with citation styles - If you need basic help with APA, MLA, or other citation styles, the library staff are happy to help. The Writing Lab can assist with more detailed requests.
  • Assistance with computer technologies - As staffing permits, we will gladly help you with using Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, PowerPoint) , Canvas (our online course delivery system), or technologies that you might use for class work.
  • Lending Chromebooks - Simmons College KY secured a number of laptops through the Cares Act. If you would like to borrow a Chromebook, visit the COVID-19 Relief for Students page and look for the agreements under the section titled 'Student Relief Funds Available'. You will need to fill out the borrowing agreement form and pick them up and return them at the library.

For Faculty

  • Library orientations - The librarian is happy to visit your class or host your class in the library to learn about print and/or digital resources. Please let the librarian know two weeks in advance (if possible) so that they can tailor the instruction to your class's needs.
  • Research & information literacy tutorials - The library staff are keen to make the research instruction to all students. Please visit our YouTube channel and our subject guides to find help with accessing and evaluation information. If you would like a custom video or PDF handout for your course, please contact the Library Director.
  • Embedded library services - The library staff is happy to help you brainstorm assignments and assessments that engage students with library resources and information literacy. Contact the library director to schedule a consultation.
  • Textbook Alternatives & Supplements - There are many scholarly teaching and learning resources that are available freely available online that do not have the traditional copyright restrictions. These 'open educational resources' are free to view and/or download, removing the barriers of cost and delivery time of traditional textbooks.
