Calls for Submissions! (Staff & Faculty only)

by Kevin McMahon on October 14th, 2024 | 0 Comments
The Simmons Library will soon publish Simmons’ first Academic Affairs journal, and we need your help to contribute and get it off the ground! We are seeking submissions from faculty, staff, and other subject matter experts (SMEs) to enlighten the academic team on important issues and emerging trends in your field. While the scope of this journal will evolve (with this evolution directly influenced by what our SMEs submit), I envision this publication being external to the goings-on at Simmons, meaning that the scope should be beyond your past actions or future plans at Simmons, as this will best enlighten the academic team on how to best prepare Simmons for the future of higher education.

For example, were digital teaching and learning (DTAL) to submit for publication, this team could focus on Grambling’s new Digital Library and Learning Commons (DLLC), the first digital library housed at an HBCU. By all means, the team could tie DLLC back to Simmons to show how these innovations could influence DTAL’s future plans, but the core scope would be to inform the academic team about DLLC.

Also within the scope of the Academic Affairs journal is academic research (flex those research muscles and show our students how it’s done!), professional development opportunities (upcoming internships, conferences, grant-funded initiatives, etc.), and opinion pieces (op-eds). While I have not determined an initial publication date, it is intended as a quarterly publication. Yet, I don’t want to rush the first issue, as quality is paramount for the initial issue.

Please fill out this form to seek publication. If you already have something written, feel free to submit it as an attachment, but, ideally, you should fill out the form first to ensure that your submission meets the scope of the journal before putting in the work. I will check this form weekly for submissions and to answer any questions.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this groundbreaking endeavor!

Kevin McMahon, M.L.I.S., Director of Library and Digital Reference
